okay, so i'm not sure what it's called or where to find it. but i want to be able to plug a shotgun microphone into a "mixer?" and then plug it into my camera. that way i can plug headphones into this mixer-type thing and listen to live sound as i record.
what is it called and where can i find one? (inexpensive and in san francisco.) it really doesn't need to be fancy. i just need something really simple and cheap.
any suggestions?

Fri, August 4, 2006 - 11:11 AMIf you only have one microphone, you should be able to plug it right into your camera's mic jack. Then plug your headphones into your camera's headphone jack. Voila -- live sound while you shoot.

Re: audio
Fri, August 4, 2006 - 1:37 PMDoes your mixer have to be for field recording (portable), or is it okay if you plug it into a wall? Most affordable mixers have plugs, and aren't battery-powered. Craislist works for those: Mackies are great, and can be had for about $150 used -- but they are too heavy to carry around.
But search for "field mixer" online if you need a small battery-operated one. Try eBay. Older models can be gotten for not much money -- newer ones are pricey. -
